Hi all!

I’m quite excited

This Monday, we’re hosting our biggest 3D printing event so far, at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam: “3D Printing Now & Tomorrow”. What is happening at the moment and what does the future look like? Time to give you an update! We have the most awesome speaker line-up and already over 370 people attending!

You can sign-up for the event here. For all those who can’t join, there will be a livestream available here: http://bit.ly/3Dprintupdate (Stream starts at 8:00 PM GMT +2, Monday 14th of September)

Line-up:

Our Co-founder Brian Garret will kick this night of with some insights in the rapid development of 3D-printing in the past years and what’s trending in that world today.

Joris Laarman- MX3D Bridge

You must have heard about Dutch designer, artist and entrepreneur Joris Laarman by now… Joris is known for his experimental designs with modern technology, but he went viral with his 3D printed steal bridge and was all over the news. The bridge, a collaboration between MX3D, design software company Autodesk, construction company Heijmans and many others, will be placed across a canal in the centre of Amsterdam using robotic technology. Starting on one side of the water, the robotic arms will essentially weave the steel structure, heating the metal to 1,500 degrees Celsius in order to weld the steel and create their own support structure as they go along. The ultimate experiment to show what robots and software, engineers, craftsmen and designers can do!

DUS architects – 3D Print Canal House

DUS, founded in 2004 by architects Hans Vermeulen, Hedwig Heinsman and Martine de Wit, builds unique tailor made architecture with a global attitude, with a focus on community, design and technological innovation. DUS designs things that make you feel at home in the world – from your favorite coffee mug to the neighborhood that you live in. In 2013 they challenged the world by presenting their idea of the 3D Print Canal House: a three-year publicly accessible research into how new digital fabrication techniques can lead to new smart housing solutions and affordable tailor-made architecture worldwide. At the moment, the construction site is closed, but don’t worry! They will be re-opening soon at a bigger location!

Patrick Schuur – print+

DIY products Print+ envisions a future where people become the manufacturer of their own products. People will 3D print large portions of products on their 3D printer or at a 3D Hub. By combining these locally made parts with the parts from print+ DIY kits people create fully functional, high quality products. Making production local will help reduce the shipping volume that travels around the globe. When ‘consumers’ become ‘manufacturers’ they will also be able to extend the lifetime of their products. Because they have made their own products, they will be perfectly capable of fixing and upgrading them. Either by ordering spare parts, or by simply 3D printing replacement parts. This will reduce the amount of products that need to end up in a landfill. Retailers and 3D Hubs will be able to stock up on parts instead of finished products and will be able to 3D print products on demand. They can also offer customisation and design services to their customers as the 3D files will be made freely available. Print+ will unveil its first product – a headphone – during the ‘3D printing now & tomorrow event’.

Joris Van Tubergen

Joris van Tubergen (1977) is a designer, inventor and expert in the field of 3D printing. His knowledge and techniques are used in several projects and installations renowned by leading (international) galleries and museums. With his clear way of explaining his vision on the future of 3D printing and the future role of digital fabrication in society, he is a frequently asked as speaker for international and national broadcasts on television, interviews and now also invited to “3D Printing Now & Tomorrow” at Pakhuis De Zwijger. He teaches digital fabrication at several educational institutions a.o. TU Delft, HKU, ArtEZ and WDKA.

Hope you guys will enjoy!

Cheers,

Filemon
