Hello guys,

I am printing with Form1+, but it failed for four times within just one day, only the supports have been printed out, none main body, here are the pictures of the failed samples, please view them and give me some suggestions, thanks!!

Winson

Does the support touch the object?

Can we see the actual CAD along with a screenshot of how the file appears in preform? Does the print work in other resins?

Here are the points to check to settle your problem.

  • Avoid compatible resins or mixtures of resins.
  • Use a new tray or replace the tray after 2 L of use .
  • Update the firmware and software .

Most important :

Clean the laser beam path or the Galvo Mirrors; Here joined the procedure for cleaning.

Cleaning Small-Galvo Mirrors.pdf (5.3 MB)

Are you letting PreForm orient the part for you? The partially printed part looks like it was relatively flat to the build plate. Form1 does not work well when the part is flat to the build plate. It likes small cross section changes between layers. Also it is best to put the end of the part nearest to the build plate on the hinge side of the tank. Move the part as close to the hinge as possible. Make sure you have cleaned the tank and filter the resin to remove any floating blobs. The blobs are very hard to see in the clear resin. I use a funnel with a screen in it to filter resin between failed prints. The resin gets very contaminated when a print fails. If it is not cleaned out the contamination will cause print after print failure.

After 4 fails you should definitely replace your resin tank because it most likely has cloudy areas in silicone layer at the bottom now. 1) it could be the orientation of your model 2) how much use have you already had with this resin tank? 3) it could be dust on your mirrors. It’s always a good idea to check with support at Formlabs too. They were amazing help to me when I first got my printer! It appears that there is enough of us on here though with experience that we should be able to get you going. But we will need to see some pics of your model to check orientation and we will need to know how much use your resin tank already had on it, how old your resin is & was there any mixing of resins? Thanks and hope we can help!

Printing at 25.microns?

Hi Winson, I have had the same problem. Contact to Formlabs Support helped. They are phantastic. You receive always step by step explanations.

Cheers

Alfred

How old is the resin tank? The resin tanks are good for 2L worth of resin and have to be replaced, even less if you keep putting a model in the same place on the build platform.

Yes, of course. They do touch the object in preform, but nothing come out on the finish good.

You can check the screenshots below, I let preform to orient my stl file and set the layer height at both 0.05mm and 0.025mm, in additional, I also added some supports based on the auto orientation, but both of them have been failed finally, I don’t know why.

Here are the pictures:

Thanks for the files, I will try to fix it by following the guideline from you.

What is the thickness of the walls of your model and how much use is on this particular resin tank?

Yes, I let preform to orient my samples. And i have cleaned the mirrors after every failure, but nothing help.

And I have printed this part with normal resin a few days ago, everything is okay even with the resolution of 0.025 is okay. But When i changed it to tough resin, it fails again and again, I don’t know how to deal with it. I have attached the screenshot of the orientation below, you can check it.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

actually it’s a new tank, when i used it for the first time, the printing failed then i change the orientation of the file and change to another position, but it failed again, and i have cleaned the tank after every failure, but nothing help. I have already send email to them but it’s Saturday, I can’t get feedback until this Monday.

Do you have skype, I would like to add you then that will be easier for me to get the suggestion from you. actually the wall thickness is enough for printing as i have printed this samples for nearly 3 times with normal white resin.

0.025 is not possible for tough resin, we can only choose 0.05mm and 0.1mm, and i have already tried 0.05 and 0.1, but none of them become successful.

how did they help you out? can you let me know? I will leave my skype to you, if it’s possible to add me and send me the guideline?

it’s only been used for 40ml, not that much, So i think maybe something wrong with it, I need to inspect.

By the way, have you used tough resin before, can you give me some picture of the tough resin?

I open the new bottle of resin and pour it into the tank for the first time, I saw some particles in it, here is the picture, I don’t know if it’s normal or not.

I apologize, I do not have Skype, sorry! Ok I think from what I’ve read, it narrows it down to your resin tank and dust on the mirrors. I would follow the Formlabs guide to cleaning all of the mirrors and you will definitely want to start with a fresh resin tank. After a few failures you will most likely have cloudiness in the tank. Also check your date on the back of the resin bottle to assure its not more than a year old.
