Brighton, Michigan? Brighton, England? Brighton, somewhere else?
I don’t know of any 3D printer repair service, but if you’re in Brighton, MI, you’re right near me and I’d be willing to take a look at it.
Ah sorry great point, Brighton England. Thanks so much for the offer!!

Ah, bummer. There’s a Maker Faire in Brighton which might be a way to get in contact with someone who would know. Looks like they’re taking a break this year, sadly, but you could try asking the person who runs their Twitter or something. https://twitter.com/makerfairebtn
Awesome thank you very much, will try and get in contact
Thanks again

I’m on the other side of the pond but if you post your problem there are a lot of people here who can help you fix it yourself. The more specific you are, the more people will help.

Hi there,
So I was having problems with an extruder and the hex bolt being rounded. So I decided to buy a new set of extruders. I brought these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-Head-Thermistor-Extruder-0-4mm-Nozzle-for-3D-Reprap-Mendel-Makerbot-Printer-/281537703594?hash=item418cf46eaa:g:sNsAAOSwnDxUl9yj
I wired in everything cable for cable and everything seemed fine, however I am now getting a load of problems.
First is the surrounding of the thermocouple seems to be burning and there is a lot of smoke,
Second it seems like the left extruder heats up and then shortly after I get an error saying that the temp has reached its max and needs to be restarted.
Third the right extruder does not seem to heat up anymore, seems to fluctuate between 27 and 28 degrees.
When fitting the new extruders I noticed that the white cable (on the thermocouple) was different, so I switched the new ones for the ones which were on my old extruders.
Any help, or anyone around me who can fix would be awesome.
Thanks again

A thermocouple & thermistor are not the same thing. Unless you want to redo the firmware you need to replace your temp sensors with the same kind that were originally installed or it wont read the temp correctly. At best you get an error, depending on your firmware, at worse your heater could be at 500c while thinking it’s at 200c and fry the sensor/heater.

Thanks for thw info, where do i find the temp sensors? What would these look like on the CTC? I managed to reuse the silver cable coming from the extruder, does this have to match the red cable?

You need the type K thermocouples, for the ctc and PLEASE make sure that you are using 24 volt heaters in it! If you hit the 12volt heater cartridges with 24volt they will instantly heat to red hot and could burn everything up! I am including an ebay link, but please note that this auction is too much money for these(I included this because it has what you need), but also you need 24volt “40 watt heater cartridges”/“heating pipes”!

The easiest cheapest way would be to get ahold of ctc and ask them for a set of thermocouples and 40 watt heater cores. Tell them what is going on too
I hope you get up and printing soon!

Thanks so much for the link and info, i have used the old ones from my old extruder set. However do these need to match the red heater cables? How am i able to see if i havd the 24v are you able to see the ebay link? Did i get the wrong extruder set?
Even when I ordered the right link/auction and emailed to confirm, I have had vendors ship me an E3d V5 clone instead of the V6 lite, and 12volt accessories after I specified 24v, so I mean the only way really is to test them to see, but let me go through my history and see, I will throw up some links for the right stuff also if you ever wanted to upgrade your heater block I know the QIDI uses a 24v system and has a screw in thermocouple, Man my first 3d printer was a ctc and what a nightmare LOL but thank god for it because it was one heck of a learning experience! also you should go ahead and order an extra motor cable and a extra endstop and an endstop cable for backup! It stinks waiting for ever for parts to show up! PS the guys that sold me ctc were not very nice and they took for ever to send a replacement cable, but also they tried to rip me off hardcore on extra parts, I mean that was absurd what they wanted per part!

and also I would go ahead and buy an extra 24 volt fan 40mm I think and well i know the power supply fans burn up all the time and they sent me a free replacement which was nice of them! oh but also I would print a drag chain and buy extra motor cable and a extra endstop and cable!
Thanks so much for your help, amazing info!
