Hey everyone. I noticed that 3D pen filament is cheaper, actually that might just be because you don’t get as much of it but that’s besides the point.

Anyway, I was wondering if it’s possible to use pen filament in a 3D printer (I specifically have a MP Select Mini V2, but I don’t think that’s important). From what I can tell, a lot of 3D Pen filament is PLA and my printer works with PLA and they make 1.75 mm filament which is what my printer uses.

Can you use any filament for 3D printing as long as it’s the right type and size?

In general, if it’s the right dimensions and your extruder can get hot enough to melt it, then you can extrude it.

You can even make a gravity autofeeder to feed the sticks into the printer one after another. Although you might be better off with https://samplefilaments.com or a similar sample filament site to get lower quantities of filament for less cost per order. Pen filament is extremely expensive per gram in comparison.
