the short story a quick temp job at putting in a switch for cooling fan was left with exposed wires for to long and today i knocked it and it sparked against a bolt on the bottom of the build area at the bottem left one of the 2 that hold the PSU in place underneath, the second I did this the USB became disconnected from the PC and despite resting the computer the printer and changing usb cable and trying on another computer it wont connect again error message on dmesg (im running this on ubuntu)

on a plus side the rest of the printer still seems to work its printing off sd card now but a shame my octoprint server is now unusable can anyone make a educated guess on what it is thats blown and what I would need to do / replace to get the USB working again ?

Did you ever figure it out? I got the same thing but I didn’t touch any wires…

Hm, from what it sounds like it might be the USB Coms chip on the Arduino (or other AVR) board …

If it were broken that would mean that both Raspberry Pi as well as 3D printer would still work fine (as their chips are intact), but the communication between them is severed as the USB chip is fried …

However you did not mention what board you are using, so I can only guess, sorry.

I had a bent pin on the USB port.
