The Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action (FORESEA) program has awarded "recommendation for support" status to six ocean energy projects, paving the way for testing at three European sites.

Announced by Scottish Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy Paul Wheelhouse at the Ocean Energy Europe 2017 conference this week, the six recipients and their testing sites include:

  • Blackfish (European Marine Energy Centre);
  • Combora (EMEC);
  • IDEOL (SEM-REV);
  • Interdrones (SEM-REV);
  • Kornwerderzand BV (Dutch Marine Energy Centre); and
  • Scotrenewables (EMEC).

The program will not only afford the recipients an opportunity for real-world testing, but also expose them to further investments.

"Demand for testing remains high, as concepts and machines require validation before getting to market," Ocean Energy Europe CEO Remi Gruet said. "Significantly, non-EU technologies are coming to Europe to test, recognizing the experience and know-how from our test centers."

This round of awards was the third announced by FORESEA, which most recently selected 10 companies last November.

FORESEA's fourth and final call for applications is currently open, with applications due June 29, 2018.
