Open house to be held on May 2 on 345-kV Riverside Transmission Line Project in Wisconsin

An open house will be held on May 2 in Beloit, Wis., regarding American Transmission Company’s (ATC) proposed 345-kV Riverside Transmission Line Project, the company said on April 24.

Members of the project team will be on hand at the open house to answer questions and share information about the project plans, which include an approximately four-mile to 4.5-mile, double-circuit transmission line, the company said.

According to a project fact sheet, the project would cost about $40m to $50m, and the eastern end point of the line would be a new proposed substation near the Alliant Energy West Riverside Energy Center in the Town of Beloit, while the western end point of the line would be at a connecting point along the 345-kV Paddock-Rockdale transmission line in the Town of Beloit.

The line is needed to connect the West Riverside Energy Center to the electric transmission grid, ATC said, noting that the West Riverside Energy Center, which is expected to begin operation in 2020, is a natural gas-fueled generating station with an integrated solar installation.

Charles Gonzales, ATC senior local relations representative, said in the statement, in part: “We have identified two proposed routes for the project. If the project is approved, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin will select and order one route to be built.”

The company said that it plans to file a formal application with the commission in the summer for authorization to build the line, and if the commission approves the project, then construction is expected to begin in 2018, to meet an in-service date of 2019.
