AEP Ohio to hold open house on May 4 on Haviland-Van Wert project

American Electric Power’s (NYSE:AEP) utility subsidiary AEP Ohio on April 26 said that it will hold an open house on May 4 in Van Wert, Ohio, on the $20m Haviland-Van Wert Transmission Line Rebuild Project, which is located in Pleasant and Union townships in Van Wert County and Blue Creek Township in Paulding County.

The project components include rebuilding about 12 miles of existing 69-kV transmission line; building about two miles of new 69-kV line; and removing about two miles of line, the company said.

According to a project fact sheet, the project is needed because the existing infrastructure is aging. Proactively rebuilding the 1950s line improves reliability for customers across the region, the fact sheet noted, adding that enhancements ensure dependable electric service is available and reduces the possibility of outages.

The company said in its statement that at the open house, residents can offer input, and ask questions of project team members.

As TransmissionHub reported last December, the company had said that project construction was slated for 2017, with restoration to be complete in 2018.

In its April 26 statement, the company said that construction on the project is targeted to begin in early 2019, and to be completed by the end of 2019.

A company spokesperson told TransmissionHub on April 28, "We had to push back the Haviland-Van Wert line timeline in order to schedule an outage for the construction project."

Article amended at 5:15 p.m., EST, on Friday, April 28, 2017, to add a comment from a company spokesperson.
