The 367 kWp array (pictured) produces 410 MWh per year using PV modules from Korean-German manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells. The system was installed by Italian installer Omnia Energy 3.
Of the power produced, 90 per cent will be used to power Polo’s headquarters, which includes a logistics centre and a 25°C fully automatic frozen food service facility.
The solar system’s payback period is estimated at less than four years, resulting in savings of around €72,000 ($90,000) per year.
A 25-year performance guarantee was included with the installation, Hanwha Q Cells said, adding that “With high performance solar modules from Q Cells, solar self-consumption pays off for companies in commerce and industry in Italy – even without feed-in tariffs”.
Galdino Peruzzo, Polo’s president, said the wholesale firm was “very happy with our initial experiences with operating the solar system” and that “the system is an important step for making our company´s energy setup fit for the future – and that goes both, in ecological and in economic terms.”
And Alberto Nadai, key account manager for northern Italy at Hanwha Q Cells, said: “It is our pleasure to partner with Omnia Energy 3 and serve Polo SpA to largely disconnect from rising electricity prices via solar energy.”
