Orsted, formerly DONG Energy, announced full operations at its 573-MW Race Bank offshore wind facility constructed 16.8 miles from the North Norfolk coast of Britain.
The company texted each of its 91 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines for 240 hours, and conducted another 200-hour test of the full wind facility. Additionally, Race Bank surpassed one TWh of energy production since construction began.
“Full power and 1 terawatt hour of production are two fantastic milestones and have been achieved by the hard work and dedication of a significant number of people,” said David Summers, project director for Race Bank. “Full power means that Race Bank can now produce enough green energy to power over half a million UK homes.”
Race Bank covers an area of 46.6 square miles.
