Large electric T&D projects, such as the construction of new transmission lines and substations, generally qualify as mega projects and share the goals of delivery and commissioning. However, the success rate for the project management approach alone has been poor and shows no sign of improving – and unfortunately electric T&D owners and operators are no exception. With failure rates hovering around 65%, the enthusiasm for investment has understandably dropped while the driver to instantiate these projects remains high. Even smaller projects are not immune and show failure rates around 30%. So, what needs to be done to improve the current situation?
