NRC Renews South Texas Project Nuclear Operating License

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has renewed the operating license for both reactors at the South Texas Project for another 20 years.

Unit 1’s license now lasts through August 20, 2047, while Unit 2 runs through December 15, 2048. STP Nuclear Operating Co. submitted the renewal application on October 28, 2010.

The Bay City, Texas plant has a total capacity of 2,760 MW.

The NRC now lists 89 nuclear power reactors with renewed licenses, with another five under review.
