Second SolarCity Co-Founder to Leave Tesla

Save It Saved

By Editors of Power Engineering

Peter Rive, co-founder and CTO of SolarCity, plans to leave the company shortly after it was purchased by Tesla.

Tesla officials confirmed the move, Greentech Media reported.

"As co-founder and CTO of SolarCity, Pete has played an instrumental role in expanding access to solar to hundreds of thousands of people across the country, helping to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy," the statement said. "Pete’s responsibilities, including work on Solar Roof, will be distributed among Tesla’s existing engineering teams. We want to thank Pete for everything he’s done for SolarCity and Tesla.”

Rive co-founded the company with his brother, former SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive, who departed Tesla in May. The two are also cousins of Telsa CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla purchased SolarCity late last year for $2.8 billion. Since then a number of SolarCity executives have left, including John Wellinghoff, chief policy officer; Seth Weissman, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary; and Toby Corey, president of global sales and customer experience.
